Exciting news! California Senate Majority Leader Bill Monning introduced Senate Concurrent Resolution 139 - No Straw November on April 30th. We are one step closer to having our measure proclaim the month of November as No Straw November in California, THIS IS AMAZING!
Many thanks to California Senate Leader Bill Monning for his leadership and support to highlight the significant threat posed by single-use plastic pollution, in particular the single-use plastic straw, By bringing awareness, Senator Monning is helping take action to protect not only the health of our ocean and coast but the health of all of Californians include marine life and wildlife,
SCR 139 - No Straw November will also go to the California Assembly for approval. The California Assembly is led by California Assembly Majority Leader Ian Calderon. Assembly Leader Calderon has introduced AB 1884 - Straws Upon Request, which I was proud to provide witness testimony at the California Natural Resource Committee on April 23rd.
Thank you to the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Girl Scouts for all of their support. I fell in love with the ocean through the Aquarium's Young Women in Science program and then as a Teen Conservation Leader and this is where I learned so many frightening things threatening our oceans, I knew that I had to take action through my Girl Scout Gold Award project and this is how Jr Ocean Guardians was formed . Although the ocean is not a constant view in my life, I live each day knowing that my actions directly affect our oceans and planet.
Also, thanks to the California Coastal Commission who unanimously approved my No Straw November Resolution in October 2017. The Commission is committed to protecting and enhancing California’s coast and ocean for present and future generations. I urge everyone to support the Coastal Commission by participating in their sponsored events throughout the year.
Lastly, many thanks to everyone who participated in No Straw November. Our voices are being heard, it's time to look for more sustainable options to single-use plastics. Keep making waves!
Updates will be sent out when more information is available.
