As Jr Ocean Guardians joins the world on 2/3/18 in celebrating the first International Strawfree Day, Jr Ocean Guardians will be making a $2,050 donation from our #NoStrawNovember movement patch donations. The #NoStrawNovember campaign was launched at the time Hurricane Harvey landed, causing destruction to thousands of people in the United States. The San Jacinto Girl Scout Council in Houston, Texas was selected as the 2017 campaign beneficiary.
The funds will be used to assist Girl Scouts in the Houston area who continue to suffer from Hurricane Harvey. Jr Ocean Guardians is a non-profit founded by Girl Scouts of California's Central Coast Ambassador Shelby O'Neil for her Girl Scout USA Gold Award project. Jr Ocean Guardians mission is to help educate lower grade level children on plastic pollution and recycling. Over 1/2 billion straws are used every day in the United States and they are one of the top ocean polluters. Jr Ocean Guardians and #NoStrawNovember aim to educate and empower people throughout the world to make one small change that will make a huge impact for our oceans, waterways, and planet.
