SCR-139 "No Straw November" Passes CA State Senate Today!

Today, 6/21, was a huge day for SCR-139 No Straw November sponsored by Senate Majority Lead Bill Monning, Jr Ocean Guardians, and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. SCR-139 passed the California State Senate with a vote of 21 to 6, and we needed 21 in favor votes in order for the NSN Resolution to continue to the California State Assembly.

Next stop will be the California State Assembly later this summer. We are optimistic that SCR-139 will pass the California State Assembly and then go to Governor Brown's desk for his signature.

Many thanks to all of the No Straw November supporters. In particular, I'd like to thank the California Coastal Commission, the Monterey Bay Aquarium, Ocean Elders, and everyone else who supported No Straw November and continues to support No Straw November. We all have a common goal and that is to have a clean and safe ocean. By taking a small step and refusing all single-use plastic straws, you are making huge waves for our oceans, waterways, marine life, and our planet.

Thank you and keep making waves!
